OTHER NOTES: Roderick Shaw was associated with James Cant through their involvement with the Studio of Realist Art (SORA) and their membership of the Communist Party. SORA was established in 1945 by Roderick Shaw, James Cant, Dora Cecil Chapman, Hal Missingham and Roy Dalgarno on the principle of social realism - that art should be concerned with real-life issues and not idealised abstractions.
